Apprentice Program

Clipper Tree & Landscape is currently accepting applications for its Apprentice Program. We are seeking motivated candidates, with a passion for environmental sustainability, who are looking to put this passion to work. Bring your passion and we will provide the rest!!

The Program is intended for recent graduates (and students graduating in May) with associate’s and bachelor’s degrees or certifications in horticulture, arboriculture, forestry, soil/agricultural/plant science, sustainability, landscape design, and other related programs. The two-year program is designed to immerse inexperienced candidates in the tree and landscape industry through both hands-on and classroom-style training. Candidates will become proficient in the following areas:

  • Landscape Design
  • Grounds & Bed Maintenance

Upon completion of the program, the candidate will be prepared to pass the ISA Certified Arborist Exam and NALP designation exams as well as several other industry certifications that best fit their career objectives. Once completed, candidates will be promoted within the Company to career tracts in Tree Climbing, Tree & Landscape Ground Operations, Landscape Design, or Plant Health Care.

Climbing Arborist/Climber: $35,000-$56,000/year, based on experience

Clipper Tree & Landscape is currently accepting applications for Tree Trimmer/Climber. We are seeking motivated candidates, with a passion for tree climbing, who are looking to put this passion to work. Bring your passion and we will provide the rest!!

The Program is intended for tree climbers with 2-7 years experience performing both pruning and small-to-medium removals. Applicants should have experience as a tree climber, tree trimmer, and/or arborist and have a background in tree service or forestry/conservation. A basic-to-intermediate understanding and familiarity with the following concepts is required:

  • Identification and Use of Climbing Equipment
  • Gear Inspection
  • Hazard Risk Assessment
  • Climbing Knots
  • Methods for Ascending & Descending
  • Climbing Work Plans
  • Rope Installation and Tying-In
  • Isolating a Throw Line
  • Safe Climbing Techniques
  • Work Positioning
  • Limb-Walking
  • False Crotch Installing & Use
  • Techniques for Double-Crotching, Recrotching, and Redirecting
  • Techniques for Lowering with Control Lines
  • Identification and Use of Rigging Equipment
  • Rigging Forces, Hazards and Knots

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Read and follow ANSI Z133 safety standards to the best of your ability
  • Assist supervisor and other active crew members in completing daily work-order assignments
  • Trim and remove trees – all pruning methods to be performed in accordance with ANSI A300 Pruning standards.
  • Install supplemental support systems
  • Operate and maintain equipment
  • Complete Clipper Tree/TCIA 5-day orientation program
  • Complete Clipper Tree/TCIA 90-day performance training program

The following requirements will need to be met by any applicants:

  • Experience 2-7 years as a full-time climber
  • Basic understanding of ANSI A300 Standard (Part I Pruning)
  • Familiarity with ANSI Z133 Safety Standards
  • Aerial Rescue Techniques
  • Required PPE for Climbers
  • Electrical Hazard Awareness
  • Class E or higher class CDL
  • Pre-employment drug screen and Social Security verification

ISA Certified Arborist credential strongly preferred, but not required. We will expect the candidate pass the exam within one year of joining the Company.

Landscape Crew Lead/Foreman: Up to $25/hour

The ideal candidate should have 3+ years experience as a landscape supervisor from landscape maintenance, construction with a landscape background, or groundskeeping. Additional experience from horticulture, greenhouse, plant nursery, gardening, garden center, or farm/agriculture may be considered.

Foreman-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Complete daily work-order assignments safely and efficiently
  • Provide excellent customer service and communication
  • Appropriately delegate tasks to the crew members
  • Direct the operations of the crew
  • Train and mentor other crew members
  • Ensure proper equipment maintenance and operation

Landscaper Responsibilities:

  • Know and understand ANSI Z133 Safety Standards
  • Know and understand proper use and care of PPE
  • Assist active crew members in completing daily work-order assignments
  • Drag, stack and chip brush and logs
  • Operate load and unload trucks and other equipment
  • Maintain constant awareness of jobsite activities
  • Know and understand proper roping techniques
  • Know knot tying, and understand the use and limitations of each knot used
  • Be aware of opportunities for training and promotion
  • Complete Clipper Tree/TCIA 5-day orientation program
  • Landscape installation
  • Proper Tree & Shrub planting and maintenance
  • Weeding & Mulching
  • Some hardscape installation
  • Sod installation
  • Complete Clipper Tree/TCIA 90-day performance training program
  • Obtain at least a class ‘E’ CDL within 30-days of hire
  • Communication
  • Positive attitude
  • Safe work habits
  • Team oriented

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Enjoys outdoor work, and has a passion to learn and grow within the industry
  • Must have 3+ years experience related to tree care and landscaping
  • Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, i.e. rain, heat, sun, cold
  • Reliable transportation and a Driver’s License
  • Dependable
  • Enthusiastic
  • Be able to lift 50-75lbs or more regularly
  • Good work ethic and employment history
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and background check

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated person who loves physical work and the outdoors and who has a passion for promoting environmental sustainability with tree preservation and by transforming the way landscapes are designed, built, and maintained.

General Landscaper: Starts at $17/hour

The ideal candidate should have experience in landscape building and maintenance, construction with a landscape background, or grounds keeping. Additional experience from horticulture, greenhouse, plant nursery, gardening, garden center, or farm/agriculture may be considered. Clipper Tree & Landscape requires all individuals to observe all safety rules to guarantee a safe and clean work-site.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated person who loves physical work and the outdoors to develop their career in the tree care industry.

Schedule: Monday to Friday with possibility of overtime
